NEWPORT BEACH, CALIF.–Floating in like the Good Witch in the Wizard of Oz, Glinda, AKA Lisa Moore, offered free Ferris Wheel rides to children dressed in costumes on Halloween. The co-owner of the Ferris wheel ride at Balboa Fun Zone lives a happy, fun life, providing joy to families visiting the tourist destination celebrating 75 years in 2011.
Even though her and co-owner Patrick Moore’s carousel for kids was not renewed at the Fun Zone due to Harbor Nautical Museum expansion plans, the couple’s whirlwind lives seem like a fairy tale to those who know these adults with youthful spirits, who still operate their Ferris Wheel.
They met on a blind date and were married at South Lake Tahoe nearly two decades ago. Their family and friends quickly scattered after the wedding ceremony, heading for the ski slopes and casinos. It was all in good fun, and a happy omen of more fun things to come.
The Balboa Fun Zone celebrates its 75th year with Fun Zone Tuesdays, offering discounts on the Ferris Wheel ride and other attractions at the zone, which still includes an indoor arcade and Bunjee jump, plus boat rentals and tours. There is also a popular ferry shuttle that taxis cars and foot traffic between the peninsula where the Fun Zone is located and Balboa Island. thebalboafunzone.com
