It's the 4th of July and everyone's waving the flag and wearing their red, white & blue. Some happy people are getting a double bonus along the California coast. In addition to a fireworks show which ends in most beach towns around 10 p.m., the grunion are set to run around 11:55 p.m. on July 4, 2011. The fireworks should be over and hopefully the lights, the sound, and the people won't scare the small fish that come on the beach to spawn. It's open season and if you buy a fishing license, you can catch the critters with your bare hands and keep them.
Independence Day is a day filled with surprises, parades, beach bonfires, and BBQs. Happy 4th, wherever you are and whatever you plan to do on this American holiday that celebrates the country's formation and freedom from Great Britain's taxation! Now if we can do something about being taxed too much by our own country, that will be a reason to celebrate even more.
