If you're a Maine lobster fan living in California, you don't have to fly back East to snack on your favorite treat, once regulated so that maids and servants didn't have to eat it more than a few times each week. Oh, the good ‘ol days. Today, those same people would be considered living on the lap of luxury according to their diet. Maine lobster is one of the most expensive foods you can eat and order in restaurants, especially in California. And there's a group of groupies we've encountered, who travel between the major California lobster festivals to get their fill of this delicious meal. Setting aside around $150 for three weekends of joy, they attend three different South Bay (Los Angeles) festivals where steam rises through the air, there's plenty of ice cold beer (age 21+) and music fills the air.
Long Beach Original Lobster Festival launches the feeding frenzy. The themed event held on the spacious grass lawns next to that big Wyland building (Long Beach Arena) includes a full line-up of Bayou, Zydeco, Cajun and Rock. The party lasts into the night (originallobsterfestival.com).
After Long Beach, everyone heads over to San Pedro Sept. 16-18, 2011, and Redondo Beach Sept. 23-25. Life is good-if you love lobster!
