January is a bright time for those looking to get in some serious skiing in California. And skiers usually have Mammoth Mountain on the mind. When the Mammoth Lakes resort recently declared it had the most snowfall of anywhere on earth, of course the hotels were already booked for the usual White Christmas and Happy New Year crowd.
But those events soon will be faded memories, and it becomes the perfect time to plan a ski trip to Mammoth, which usually has snow skiing till July 4th (some years the season has gone as late as early August!)
Horizon Air flies direct from Los Angeles or San Francisco International Airports and if you search the deals on their site, there have been flights as low as $59 one way! When you arrive in Mammoth the hotels offer a courtesy shuttle from the airport so you don't have to rent a car, meaning you can save a lot of money and can get around without ever driving.
Not everyone is up for skiing, so you might want to try some cross country skiing, snowmobiling, sledding, or just sit in your lodgings and adore the snow. While there are lots of places to see and experience snow in California, Mammoth has a reputation for getting the largest amount of snow accumulation annually-around 33 feet.
There are over 60 restaurants, countless shopping, nightclubbing, and events all winter long. If you need to get away and you didn't get the chance to give yourself the vacation you desire, Mammoth Lakes is offering snow but you gotta go before the 4th of July!
