MARINA DEL REY, CALIF. — When the Los Angeles Department of Beaches and Harbors was forced to omit its annual Marina del Rey 4th of July Fireworks Show in 2011, many felt the community lost some of its soul. Heartbroken, they missed an annual tradition enjoyed by thousands of locals and visitors each year. And because it was such a bummer, some generous donors have stepped forward to provide a New Year’s Eve fireworks extravaganza to help ring in 2012!

The event will only last five minutes, but that’s good enough, say repeat visitors and local residents who love to see the spectacular displays light up the water and bays in the marina. The five-minute fireworks show begins Saturday, December 31, 2011, at 11:59 p.m. with a special 30-second countdown to midnight. The aerial display will be presented by Zambelli Fireworks Internationale, recognized in pyrotechnics for more than 100 years.

The fireworks will be launched off the south jetty and visible throughout the marina. Prime viewing spots include Fisherman’s Village and Burton Chace Park. Parking will be available for a minimal fee in Los Angeles County lots throughout the marina.

The New Year’s Eve fireworks show has been organized by the Marina del Rey Holiday Boat Parade committee and has received contributions from many donors to make this event happen.
