It's hard to believe that California doesn't have the top visited city in the United States, nor does it rank in the top 3! However, if you're looking to see the 4th most visited place, head for Anaheim, home to Disneyland resorts. There are close to 43 million people that make their way to the "Happiest Place on Earth", the sign outside the entrance advertises. Rounding out the top 10 most visited cities in America is San Diego, the beach vacation playground. Who doesn't love San Diego? It has SeaWorld, San Diego Zoo & Safari Park, Balboa Park, Mission Beach & Mission Bay, Coronado, Ocean Beach, Pacific Beach...etc.
Leading the list of Top 10 Most Visited U.S. Cities is Orlando, Florida. New York at #2 is no surprise, but Chicago at #3 is unexpected (I've lived there.) And to think that Atlanta (my brother lives there,) Houston and Philadelphia beat out San Diego, well, it just shows you that not everyone is so enamored with California as its residents are.
Here's the list from data Forbes obtained in 2010:
Orlando, Fla. 48 million visitors
New York City, NY 47 million visitors
Chicago, Ill. 45,580,000 visitors
Anaheim, Calif. 42,700,000 visitors
