930 new California laws that go into effect in 2015. Some will hurt the average guy’s wallet:

1. AB-32, designed to reduce California’s greenhouse gas emissions by adding a tax onto gas and oil, is expected to raise the cost of a gallon of gas from 15 cents per gallon to up to 75 cents. Californians already pay 68 cents a gallon in taxes, and now this first-in-the-nation climate change law which some call California’s new hidden gas tax, aims to reduce the number of miles driven by consumers. California’s cap and trade program that began last year through sales of carbon credits to companies and agencies channels the money into a special fund where it can be used for low income housing near transportation hubs, help build the controversial high speed rail, and a variety of projects. Europe tried a cap and trade program in the last decade and pollution levels still increased dramatically.

2. Chicken cage law is expected to impact the price of eggs. As of January 1, 2015, anyone who wants to sell eggs in California will have to comply with new rules giving each bird 116 square inches of space. The industry standard is 67 square inches per bird.

3. AB-60, the illegal immigrant drivers license law, is expected to cost up to $220 million to implement (5 new DMV offices and 1,000 new hires) but the standard $33 license fee will not offset the program’s expenses. Approx. $50 million in fees could be collected. Taxpayers will foot the bill for the program. California is the 11th state to issue drivers licenses to illegals. In Nevada only 1 in 10 applicants was able to pass the driving test.

4. Obamacare fees for non-insured rise in 2015 to 2% of income or up to $975 per family. In 2014 the cost was 1% or up to $95. In 2016 the price will be up to $2,085 per family or 2.5% of household income, whichever is higher.
