Romance on the Pacific in Carmel by the Sea, California

Colorful sunsets under the Monterey Pines are part of Carmel's infinite charms. The seaside city of no more than 5,000 residents is one of California's most romantic destinations. It appeals to all ages, but especially to adults who hunger for a simple life and pleasures. Among the memories visitors treasure are sunsets and silhouettes, ideal for picture taking. When you take a sunset stroll along Scenic Drive like so many locals do as they walk their dogs just before nightfall, be sure to stop at vantage points along Carmel Beach City Park where benches offer a place to sit and reflect.

Some long for tropical beaches with tiny bikinis, drinks with umbrellas and sultry nights. Carmel is more like cozying up over a vintage bottle of wine and a nice steak or fish dinner at an intimate bistro with a crackling fire.

When you visit, you'll feel inspired to take lots of pictures. Be sure to see:

  • Carmel Mission where the king of California missions, Father Junipero Serra was buried. Carmel by the Sea was his favorite place on the coast and he made it his home.
  • Wine lovers, be sure to visit Chateau Julien in Carmel Valley. The French style estate is quite charming, and the wines are tasty.
  • Ocean Avenue shops & galleries-stop for a spot of tea at Tuck Box English Tea Room, then be on your way to explore ways to spend money, or just window browse.
  • Stunning Carmel Valley golf courses at Carmel Valley Ranch and Quail Lodge. Some make the special trip to Carmel just to golf.
  • 17 Mile Drive-there's an entry gate to this world class, spectacular drive at Carmel Way.

Carmel is an ideal getaway for couples of all ages, and offers countless scenic wedding locations ranging from affordable to elegant and expensive. It's the kind of place where romance fills your head, even if you travel alone.
