YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, CALIF.- California has exceeded its average rainfall in many regions and for the Sierra Nevada mountains where the skiing has been superb, that means the snow melt will christen Spring with spectacular displays of cascading water rushing down the steep granite mountains at Yosemite National Park. There are a number of superlatives in the Yosemite Valley where you can take a vacation and watch the waterfalls. Some flow during the winter but they aren't quite as spectacular as the WILL be if you just wait a few weeks or months till late February through May.
Among the falls you can see Bridalveil Fall, which looks like a bride's veil when the wind blows the mist to fan out like a veil. The tallest single fall in North America is Ribbon Fall, while the spectacular Yosemite Falls, a series of three drops along one mountain face, combine to make the 5th tallest in the world. It drops over 2,400 feet. To watch it you have to stretch your neck up and then begin following the waterfall as it drops near your feet, crashing in rocks and leaving water everywhere-on cameras, on clothes, on your skin. It is simply amazing to see and experience, and this video gives only a slight approximation of the experience.
When you're ready to take a hike and go see California's splendor, you don't have to walk very far to access these beautiful waterfalls, some of the most beautiful in the world. Read more...>
