Naples, California -- This town within the bounds of Long Beach was built to fashion an Italian village at the turn of the 20th century. Canals, gondolas, and at one time a hotel on its waterways all created the look and feel of another part of the world. Today the hotel is gone, but there's a gondola ride that takes lovers, friends and families around the canals of Naples. The gondolier stops under small bridges and sometimes he sings--but he tells you this is a place where people usually kiss.
Gondola Getaway is the name of the gondola rides company that operates in Naples, California. It was established in 1982, and its success comes from an excellent crew of expert gondoliers who navigate the canals of Naples with authentic Venetian gondolas.
The ride launches from a small dock on Ocean Ave. in Belmont Shore next to the Leeway Sailing Clubhouse on the bay. There is metered parking and some free parking along the Long Beach peninsula. Most the year you can drive from 2nd Street to Bayshore and be right there, but in the summer the small street along the bay closes for kids & families. If you go in the summer, you'll need to turn down one of the streets in Belmont Shore, then back-track toward an area called Long Beach Peninsula, where Alfredo's Beach Club is located.
The Gondola Getaway offers relaxing and romantic cruises around the canals of Naples from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. 7 days a week except for a special night when the Naples Boat Parade is held on the 2nd Saturday in December.
