Celebrated Swami’s, the surfer beach of “Self Realization”, is an easygoing attraction, and part of what makes one San Diego County beach town so appealing to journalists, travelers and locals. Encinitas is California’s answer to the “Big Easy”. It has absolutely everything from amazing waves and great cafes to entertaining nightlife! With some of the most generous beach hours of any city in California, surfers can ply their trade most of the day (and night) and tourists can delight in watching, trying their hand at surfing, or simply sunbathing in the sandy coves or a favorite spot, Moonlight Beach. “World’s 20 Best Surf Towns” , a list produced by National Geographic, includes Encinitas in its 2012 edition. The only other California city to make this top 20 list is Santa Cruz.
Consistent waves, inviting accommodations, friendly locals, fun nightlife, delicious food, and plenty of activities, are cited as the reasons for selecting Encinitas as one of the 20 best in the world. Other spots selected: Hawaiian Islands –Hanalei and Paia, and Byron Bay, Australia.
